1. Guest Post
You're a freelancer right, so you should at least have a decent knowledge in your field of work. Why not use your knowledge to your advantage. Contact your favorite design blogs and offer to write a guest post, 90% of blogs will take your article as long as it is unique, detailed and well explained. In taking on your article they also display a link to your website, a short bio as written by you and possibly link to your social media profiles.

So why write a guest post on a graphic design blog? This is not exactly the type of audience I am after, if they are reading a design blog I am sure they know how to design!

The point of a guest post is not to attract direct clients but more so to begin making a name for yourself within the design community and network with others. The more people that know about you and your services, the more chance they will tell others about you.

2. Create a freebie
Spend some time creating a unique and useful resource that others could make us of. It does not matter if it is as small as a social media button or as large as a coded web template. As long as you create something nice, well-constructed and useful, people will take value in it.

Place a download to your freebie on your website, blog and submit it to the large amount of resource websites. Do not forget to share it via your social media profiles.

3. Run a competition
Run a competition via your website, blog and social media profiles. Offer a free or heavily discounted service to the winner, people love getting something for free. This is definitely a great way to get gain some exposure and drive a bit of traffic towards your profile.

But why offer a service for free? I am freelancing to make money!

You've heard of the old saying “You have to spend money to make money” right? (Although that is not 100% true). This has a similar theory, provide a service for free, or a discounted price, and receive more work. Not only are you gaining a potential long term client relationship but also increasing your potential word of mouth advertising. All it takes is some excellent work with the winner, both design and support wise, and they are sure to spread the word about you with their friends.

4. Look for work locally
Local work is easily going to be your largest source of work and income when starting out, especially if you focus on web design. Do not be afraid to get out there and approach local businesses, even if they have an established website.

Focus first on looking for local businesses that do not already have an online presence. Do not just offer your services too them, almost all of them will turn you done right away. Instead educate them on why they should have an online presence and, specifically, how it will benefit them. You need to justify to them why they should spend money for you to create a website for them, highlight how it will increase their sales and presence within their market. It is surprising on just how many local businesses do not have websites and just how many of them are not even aware of the perks of having one.

After targeting businesses that do not have a website, start approaching companies that do have one. Most local businesses have an out dated or poorly designed website that has been made in house. Again, use your knowledge to educate your potential client on why they should hire you to update their website.

5. Blog
The most obvious way to promote your services is via blogging. Use your blog to write detailed articles about design, prove to your potential clients that you do indeed have a great knowledge of what you do. Blogging is also an ideal way to show your potential clients who you are, what you are like and what your services may be like they should choose to hire you.

Try to release a few articles about your design process, what steps you take to achieve an income and how to achieve the required required for your projects.

Conclusion
There are limitless ways to promote your design services but the effective and free ways to promote your design services mentioned above are sure-fire ways to increase the popularity of them. Business will not increase over night and you need to be prepared to dedicate a lot of time in promoting your services but over time it will pay off.

Digital technology makes way for more elegant and mature pencils online: How do you create top quality drawings more effectively?

As a product technical illustrator, I feel that putting your design ideas into paper is for other people to enjoy. This means that we need to draw and catch their attention. We do not draw because we feel what we draw is good for us. However, if we do not keep our clients needs and requirements in mind, we only have ourselves to appreciate the end results of our sketches. If we want to make money, then please do a little research about the latest trend. One thing though, our thoughts may matter but we can not argue about what the client wants. We can not make them like something that does not appeal to their tastes. Top quality drawings for a digital graphic artist and technical illustrator actually means creating images that extremely capture the eyes and hearts including the pockets of the consumers.

A freelance digital graphic designer perceives the world a little differently. One may use the digital software to manipulate visual images as well as enhance the quality of the output. Many digital freelance illustrators have shifted to using the digital technology and just try working on their own technical illustration styles. Recent developments in computer technology allow amazing new tools in the hands of the graphic artists and digital designers. As you may see, several old software for digital technology in the market has been experiencing recent innovations and updates to help amateur and aspiring graphic artists produce better images and print results. Most of the technology now usually produces professional results. We need to learn how to use the features of the software and enhance our skills by creating images every day.

The magazines specifically digital and creative magazines provide great tips and tricks on how to create certain images. They are filled with full colored illustrations and a step-by-step guide instruction. We may use drawing shortcuts using the hand drawing techniques provided by the recent 2D and 3D digital technology. I am convinced that combining both modern and traditional graphic illustration styles would result in better print images. Furthermore, as a freelance illustrator, I still think that we need to find our own voice in our graphic works. This could be like having a trademark style. Something that is unique and just yours!

We need to sharpen and streamline our visualization technique in simple and advanced composition or even using digital hybrid drawings. If you prefer to use a sketchbook first then buy one, fit into your pocket, and starting drawing whenever an idea comes into your mind. Sketchbooks help you record a pattern that you may use in another technical illustration or diagram.

The Wonders of Photo Editing

Latest technology has afforded us the means to capture a beautiful image. For photographers, it is an art to capture images and process these into beautiful pictures. Latest technology has afforded us the means to capture a beautiful image. For photographers, it is an art to capture images and process these into beautiful pictures. It used to be a careful process to create strong and beautiful photographs, one that requires vision, skill, and creativity. What used to be a manual process has now become digital and easy to enhance.

With software like Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom, it has become so easy to edit pictures. Even a novice Photoshop user can learn how to remove a pimple, wrinkles, or any other blemish on a portrait. Adjusting the contrast and brightness, color shades, and more can improve the photo image. There are also new camera models and iPhone apps nowdays that have presets and other simple settings to change how the image can be captured. Blurred effects, night shot settings, sepia, and other artistic effects can be used to take enhanced photos easily. It depends on the digital camera you have purchased. The ones with advanced settings and higher pixels can provide better photos. These are more expensive than your standard point-and-shoot.

Magazine covers look very glamorous and artistic. Models and celebrities are depicted perfectly as if they look that way in real life. Photo editing is the key to create such beautiful magazine covers, billboards, and print ads. Those baby fats, facial hair, lines on the face, and frizzy hair can be altered in photos to achieve a perfect look for models and celebrities. If you do not know what “liquefy” is in Photoshop, then you'll be amazed at how it can lose some of the extra weight on a person. Airbrushing is also a popular method to edit photos. Even lips can be contoured and given a more vibrant shine. Brows can be darkened, and those unwanted eye bags can be edited out. The result will be a totally fresh and beautiful picture.

This makes you wonder if celebrities and models are really gorgeous and glamorous in everyday life. While some can look a bit plain without make-up, good lighting, and photo editing, others are still very much beautiful. You can check out celebrities without Photoshop online. Some are still very sexy in their before and after pictures in their swimwear, while others are not quite so. Elle magazine also released an issue with stars without make-up.

Photo retouching and editing is good for advertising. This has been very useful in depicting celebrities and models perfectly in print ads and magazines. The disadvantage of having the latest technology and software nowdays is that people tend to disregard the importance of good photography, and they focus more on photo editing. The art in photography loses some of its essence when a lot of photo editing, retouching, and enhancement were done on the photos. With easy settings using your expensive digital camera, some people find no more motivation to learn more skills in photography.

Technology may have changed the way we capture images, but the vision and skill to capture images will always be the marks of a true photographer.

It is important for any artist to consider the elements and principles of art when they are creating a drawing or painting. One principle that is often overlooked, but incredibly important is contrast. Contrast is a great way to create an interesting drawing or painting. Contrast, which plainly means difference, can be created by variations in value, color, texture, size and so on.

The simplest way to create contrast in a drawing is through value. Value is the darkness or lightness of a color. It should be the artist's goal in any drawing or painting to create a full range of value, meaning a broad spectrum of both lighter values and darker values. Lighter values are referred to as tints while darker values are called shades. By placing darker values (shades) next to lighter values (tints), an artist can easily create contrast in a drawing or painting.

Simply adding contrast in a drawing seems easy enough, however many beginning artist struggle with creating a full range of values in their drawings. One method that helps many artists break free from this tension is to use white media on black paper.

Approaching drawing in this manner forces the artist to think about values in a different way. Typically artists are adding dark media to a light surface. When adding white media to a dark surface, this process is reversed. It can be challenging the first few times this is attempted.

There are many different forms of white media. White inks, charcoal, colored pencils, and pastels are all considered ideal for this exercise. When any of these mediums are used on black paper, you usually see immediate contrast.

Since drawing with white media is the opposite of what most artists are used to, it can be difficult to adjust. Years of drawing on white paper with dark materials have engrained in most of us a certain perception of drawing. This perception has forced us to think about drawing as adding dark values and leaving light values alone. When white media is added to dark paper, the artist must add the lighter values and leave the darker values. When we practice with this way of thinking, it actually improves our drawing ability, forcing us to really consider the full range of value that exists on objects that we draw. By practicing, we become more observant of the value relationships that must be included in drawing in order for them to appear realistic.

Contrast can be easily created in a drawing through value. An easy way to achieve the range of value necessary for contrast is to use white media on dark or black paper.

Pablo Picasso was born in Malaga, Spain on October 25, 1881. This sculptor and painter from Spain is the most revered master of the 20th century. Picasso's talent for painting was detected early in his childhood. It is believed that Picasso's father owed to never paint again after he saw the skilled sketch of a pigeon by Picasso. Picasso started receiving formal training from his father, since he was just seven years old. Picasso's father convinces the School of Fine Arts, to allow Picasso to sit for the entrance exams to the institute. This procedure generally took months. However, Picasso completed the whole process in just one week. He was only 13 at that time. Further on, he went to study at the Royal Academy of San Fernando, in Madrid. However, the rigid nature of the institute soon began to grate on him. He skipped classes and spent days, admiring the works of Goya, El Greco and Zurbaran. He learned French and French literature from the poet Max Jacob.

Picasso was on the point of poverty and desperation. Yet he slept during the days and worked during the nights. Picasso led an interesting and colorful life. In Madrid, he founded an art magazine called the 'Arte Joven' with his friend Francisco de Asis Soler. Picasso came up with political cartoons for the magazine while Soler looked after the articles. His work became a dominant part in the collection of the American collectors Leo and Gertrude Stein. The subjects of Picasso's paintings were often portraits and other themes that he contributed towards patronized exhibitions. Picasso was devastated after the premature death of his mistress Eva Gouel at the young age of 30. Later on, he married twice and was a father to four children. All the women he had relationships with, were immortalized in art by him.

Picasso also did film appearances and always played “Picasso the artist”. Picasso's work is best studied in periods. In the Blue period, his subjects are illustrated with sympathy and melancholy. In the Rose period, his paintings portray a return to romanticism, depicted with warmer colors. The African, Analytic Cubism and Synthetic Cubism are other periods where the paintings have an under theme in style. Picasso detested his popularity. He turned to sculpting in the hope that the world might leave him alone. However, this was not to be. One of the many attractions in Malaga is the famed Picasso museum. Tourists on holidays in Malaga often rejoice in the legacy left by Picasso at Malaga.

Designing a t-shirt that sells like hotcakes: What are the best elements and techniques to follow in designing?

For the fashion illustrator, one needs to practice creating curved lines and arcs. Drawing a stick figure is the perfect starting point for beginners because it helps one lay out lines of proportion that are considered as critical in creating a figure drawing work. The fluid stick figures help in laying out fashion illustrations. Three themes may emerge if you examine graphic art and technical illustration

  • Most digital graphic artist and technical illustrators are so tied to the computer that they can not imagine their art without using the software. They became too dependent with the computer or going in between looking for ways to improve their drawings using the digital tool.
  • Most artists work as freelancers nowdays.
  • Few artists make a living in their specific field. The approach to survival is diversity in order to keep a rewarding competitive career.

How do you design t-shirts that attracts your specific consumer market?

The problem is research. Actually, it is not the design. You need to know what kind of design your target market wants and then create it. This is all about marketing and creating a trend. If you want to sell something, create some brand awareness. Getting into the feel and swing of designing a t-shirt is the best thing that you can do in order to communicate the best aesthetic design that would please and catch the attention of your audience. Experimenting what works for your niche also needs considerable research on how to best capture their money.

Marketing basics for technical illustrators and digital graphic artists

To be honest, I would say that as a technical illustrator, we should focus on the human side of our business when planning a very detailed marketing strategy. Although you may say that designing is an essence of art, I would say that marketing is connecting to the human side of your audience. In promoting our designs, we do not go online displaying our designs. We do appeal to the human nature and interests of our audience. As digital artists, we should know how to deal with this aspect of marketing. This is crucial in playing sketches and developing the foundation of our brand. We may already have several concepts in mind but we need to make sure the idea appeals to the audience. The key technique is to create a design that will make your niche market remember your design and brand. Our design should be tailor to the context and the needs of our target market. Create your marketing campaign to specific techniques most appropriate to the consumers context and needs.

How to Develop Your Unique Artistic Style

Style, is a word in the art community used to describe the type of work an artist creates. You may wonder if you have your own style. How long does it take to acquire style? Does my art look like someone else's style? Will I ever be able to find it, this illusive element that…

Style, is a word in the art community used to describe the type of work an artist creates. You may wonder if you have your own style. How long does it take to acquire style? Does my art look like someone else's style? Will I ever be able to find it, this illusive element that as an artist, you must have?

Master painters learned their craft by becoming an apprentice for another artist. It's not so easy today to find someone who knows their craft and who will take you “under their wing” and mentor you.

Today, you're lucky if you can find a mentor at all. Someone who can give guidance without interfering in your creative process. It's hard to follow another artist without picking up their style. There is a way to absorb the techniques without copying the same style. However, this is how you learn proper technique in the beginning, by copying.

If you do not have a mentor or art teacher it is hard but not impossible to learn to paint better and find your own unique style.

So, what is the secret to finding your own style? I'll tell you. You already have your own style. We all do. Our styles vary just like our handwriting is different from another. The way in which you hold a brush, the level of pressure you use when applying the paint, thickness of paint, brushstrokes. If you look at a series of your paintings and drawings you will see a certain essence to all of them.

Your style will get better with time and practice. Honing the skills that you learn from daily practice and taking lessons. Learn as much as you can from teachers, “pick their brains.” Not just why something is not working in a particular painting and how you can correct it. That helps, but the questions you should ask are “what is their inspiration, their reason for choosing a palette, a brush stroke,” Asking about their process is more important than them telling you the symmetry is off or the eyes are not level. These things you can discover on your own.

You want to know how to approach the painting process. What is most important to that artist? Composition, tone, color? How does one discover ways to critique their own work? Let other artist's critique your artwork. Ask for total honesty. Be ready for their honesty. You may not like what you hear. Treat these words as pearls. Do not throw them away out of arrogance or pride. This is the way in which you learn to develop. It takes your art to the next level. It forces you to change.

If you do not have a mentor or teacher, here are some ways to take your art to the next level:

1. Color test. Create color, inspiration boards. Experiment with what colors work well together, what contrasts of color are meaningful for you. Before you even begin a painting play around with color boards.

Ask questions. Which colors intrigue you? What colors do you use a lot of in your painting? Write down what mood comes to mind when looking at each color? Before making a painting decide to use only a few colors and see what happens. Many artists are known for their style by color palette. Look at the masters, write what their palette choice was for their paintings.

2. Tone. Add deeper tones to your painting or soften your work. See how this changes your work for good or bad.

3. Try different mediums and techniques. If you always work in oil try watercolor. If you like tight realistic work, brush with abandon. Go broad, thick, loose. If you paint try drawing. Mix it up, experiment. Even if the work is terrible you are learning what works for you.

4. Copy the masters, they can teach you so much.

5. Take a workshop to open up your mind to new theories and techniques. Fully involve yourself, ask questions, ask for critiques.

6. Work in series. I like working in series. It lets me express myself in different ways and opens up my artwork to new levels that did not exist before. Dark and moody, then bright colors. Do a series of still life's or portraits, animals, abstracts.

Galleries and marketers want to tie you up in a neat package with a label that says “_____artist”. “She is a palette knife painter, an abstractionist, realist, expressionist.” That makes it easy for them to brand and sell you. The question, “What style artist are you?” Is a relevant question to ask. Answer the question so that it makes it easier to sell your art.

That being said, do not let the style of art you sell keep you locked in that style as an artist. You are an explorer, a dreamer. You've been given a gift. Art is the gift. Let art show you all the joy it holds. Exploring other kinds of art is very freeing. Creating with other styles and mediums through your career is crucial.

Artists are explorers and innovators. Do not let anyone pigeon hole you. Money is not the motivator. It is a way to make a living but it does not drive the boat. Create art in styles that sell but also ones that are not your marketed style. It may not sell, but that does not mean you should not make it.

Art is not a factory. You did not get into art because you wanted to make the same paintings over and over again. You paint for freedom to express yourself fully. Humans are complex, why would our work be limited to seascapes and boats? That is the sales end of art making. Making money from art is great, but that is not what I crave.

I crave the process of painting. The spiritual intensity, fully merged with earthly form. I experience this alignment with the universe only while creating art or when I'm alone out in nature. Looking at a nighttime galaxy of stars is being connected to the Source of everything. That is what I'm expecting to do when I paint. To have the experience of enlightenment.

Do not focus so much on your style it is always emerging and growing as you emerge and grow as a person.

An illustration is the visual representation, created either in form of sketch, photograph, picture or any other artwork, to clarify or dictate information from newspaper article, story, essay or poem. In today's modern world illustrations are created with the help of various computer software applications. They can either be two dimensional or three dimensional illustrations. However, the question arises that why illustration are created or needed? Well, this article answers the question about why illustrations are needed.

Convey the message – if you want to express an idea which is otherwise difficult to explain or take a lot of time to describe, illustrations are used. The brain of the human functions in such a way, that they have tendency to grasps visual representation much more quickly than verbal or written information. In addition to this, it also helps to convey the message to those who have hearing disability.

Education – illustrations are used in education from the very beginning of human's life. A child begins to understand the world around them with the help of illustrations. Not only it will educate children but, it can also help them develop their imagination. This is the reason why there are illustrated books for children. A good illustration book can create big impact on the child's future. However, illustration is not only limited to educating children, but they are also used to teach people of all age group about complicated mechanical, engineering, scientific and many more concepts.

Advertisement – if you are a business, advertising plays a very important role of promoting your product. However, not all people will remember your brand while they do have time to watch your commercials. In such cases, an illustrated advertisement plays a crucial role. As mentioned earlier, people have tendency to grasps visual representation quickly and it stays in their memory for a long time. So when they are out in a supermarket looking for some utility, they can quickly identify the illustrated advertising brand.

Illustrations can also help companies or businesses to advertise on the internet. In today's modern world, people almost spend at least half of their day on the internet and an illustrated advertisement on such medium can prove to be very beneficial to any company. Despite other internet advertising methods such as videos and photographs, illustrated advertising is much more effective and efficient. Let us see some of the advantages of illustration over other advertising methods:

– Illustration can load quickly on web page when compared to photograph or video clip.

– Illustration can elucidate or clarify and describe more information than a camera photograph.
– Illustration can easily be modified or customized.

How Planning Can Save Money In Your Landscaping Project

Without careful planning, your landscaping project could end up costing you much more than you can realistically afford. It may even be left half finished, turning your yard into an eyesore rather than the attractive space you hoped it would be. By planning everything from the very beginning, however, you can stand to save a reasonable amount of money that could be spent on other aspects of your home or put to a more leisurely use, such as a holiday.

You should begin by setting a landscaping budget. This will help to ensure that you do not spend more money than you have. You could also consider undertaking your new landscaping design in stages so that you are not spending thousands of dollars in one go. If you make this decision, however, you need to set a limit on how much money you can spend at each stage of the project.

But how do you know if you have set a realistic budget or not? Well, the general rule of thumb is that landscaping contractors somewhere between 5 and 10 percent of the value of your home. This cost includes absolutely everything, including decks, patios, irrigation, fencing, ponds, and so on – if you feel that your landscaping is costing you more than 5 to 10 percent of your home's value, then you should probably look at cutting back some of the more expensive elements.

Once you have set your budget, it is time to begin planning your landscaping design and working out what materials and vegetation you are going to need to purchase. At this point, however, many homeowners forget about a number of hidden costs, which is where their budget gets completely blown. Some of the unforeseen costs of landscaping include:

• Features that require lighting, as many homeowners only factor in the cost of the initial purchase and installation, not the cost of running these features. Try and opt for energy saving lighting where possible.

• Features that require a substantial amount of water (such as sprinkler systems, ponds and fountains), as homeowners make the same mistake as they do with lighting and do not account for their water bills.

• Soil improvement, as fertilizers need to be added to the soil to ensure that the vegetation in the landscaping project is kept healthy. Instead, choose plants that exist naturally in your climate to lessen the need for improvement.

As you can see, careful planning is the only way to ensure that your landscaping project does not become a financial nightmare from hell. By setting a budget at the very beginning (not just an estimate, an exact number) and by taking into account all of the hidden costs that come with some of the most beloved landscaping features, you can ensure that your project goes off without a hitch and does not land you in a world of debt.

Blue

The color blue is the most frequently used color in advertising in the world. It is also one of the colors you see most often in life as the sky and water are both blue. Looking at the color blue typically leaves the viewer calm and comforted. Over time, blue has also become the color that represents dependability, loyalty and wisdom.

As a designer or graphic artist, you will find that some colors just fit some specific industries. What color do you think of when you read the words 'hot sauce'? For most, the answer would be red or orange. What color do you think of when you read the words, “lawn care”? Most would say green. Well, different shades of blue have certain industries cornered as well.

When it comes to designing a website, an advertisement or a corporate identity for the medical industry, a light blue and a slightly greenish blue, close to a scrub blue are both very popular. These colors are soothing and make the viewer feel comforted while viewing your design. You will also see these colors in bedrooms as well as hospital rooms because of the calm, restful feelings it gives the viewer.

An electric blue is perfect for anything new, or modern, or technology related, but would work poorly in a medical industry design. You will see the neon blue on advertisements for televisions, telephones and DVD players. These products still want you to feel calm and satisfied when making the purchase, because these products are typically more expensive. But also, do not underestimate the eye catching value of an electric or neon blue.

In recent years, the use of a darker 'navy' blue, typically used with light grains and silver, are being used in military advertising. Marine uniforms are commonly known as 'dress blues', but most military dress uniforms include some blue somewhere. Most police and security uniforms are also blue. This is likely due to its association to making you feel dependability and loyalty. It is also fairly common for politicians to wear a navy blue suit, with a white shirt and a red tie when on television to help build trust.

Blue can also be used to enhance human production. Recent studies have shown that people can achieve more in a blue room. Weight lifters have been proven to lift more, but all athletic activities are enhanced when played in blue surroundings.

Violet

Violet does not evoke the wide range of emotions and feelings that most of the other colors do. The purple color range is typically only used as a royal color that is associated with wealth, prosperity or to reflect a rich sophistication. The best example I can show is Crown Royal scotch. Not only do they use 'royal' in the name of their premium product, they wrap the bottle in a violet sack.

Oddly enough, the other place you will see an overwhelming amount of purple is in the toys of little girls. Little girls love all shades of purple, so they will use everything from violet to pink when advertising and packaging toys for little girls.

As always, keep in mind the natural emotions that the colors you design with evoke. You do not ever want a red dominant color scheme when you design a website for a lawn care company. It is far easier to play to the emotions you want by changing your color scheme.

Will You Be Left Behind If You’re Not on Pinterest?

Create a valuable Pinterest campaign. Engage your readers by giving them a peek into your life. Bonding turns a customer into a loyal fan. Seeing a bit of you, your life, people begin to trust you. Not that this is a trick in any way. Be authentic. This flies in the face of business protocol of the past.

I would rather buy something from a trusted friend, and not a big corporation. Businesses are aware of this and are jumping on the 'engagement' model of business.

Here are 6 Reasons for you to get “on board” with Pinterest:

1. Pinterest is not a selling site. Pinterest is all about the experience. A visual vacation through photos. Relaxes the mind, moves thoughts from left to right brain activity. Creates a mood where positive connections take place. Beauty, relaxation stirs the mind to work on creative levels unhampered by business logos and sales pitches.

Psychologically, people have an innate, visceral fear about buying from strangers. We're a society deluged with advertizing, Trust is non-existent it's a “buyer beware” mentality. The familiar is what sells. Recommendations from friends. Witnessing the amount of “likes” for a product on Facebook sells.

Pinterest is becoming less a bookmarking site and becoming the next great advertizing tool. Pinterest entices reader curiosity. To see more of what you've got. This is not the place to sell products. It's the place where your product becomes known and you become friendly with clients.

Pinterest will become more useful as long as it contains a “cool” essence, has the latest trends, and keeps an easy-going non-business like tone. It's not just another “pretty picture” site.

2. Give out useful information for free. People love good content. When you give away free samples people decide if you are good fit for them.

Tutorials, Fact sheets, Tips, and Info-graphics. Everyone loves to get useful information. People are more inclined to pay attention through attractive visuals. Make sure that you always include your name and links on all of your work.

3. Make a video, audio or slide show. Offer alternate ways for others to consume your information. Lifestyle content is more engaging and fun through all types of media. More and more, videos are popping up on Pinterest. They are best if you link them back to your blog / website to watch. One page tutorials are showing up as well. Even podcasts.

4. Host giveaways. Make a visual info-graphic or flyer showing what they could win. Add your link to all of your sites. Use a “call to action” when your info is re-pinned, mentioned on twitter, Facebook, posted it to their blog; they will get an extra chance to win

5. Run trials. Pinterest is a good place to run trials. A place to post your latest painting, photo, info-graphic or workshop. See what kind of response you get. Other people re-pinning your work is a good sign that it is a viable product or service to sell.

6. Boards. All photos, pin to a virtual “tack” board. Like one you may display over your work desk. You organize your board into categories. Redesigning your kitchen? Bookmark photos on your “Kitchen” board.

I pin oil paintings on one board, mixed media paintings on another. I make boards of animals, quotes, or color combinations.

I like making “Inspiration boards” combining colorful objects that work well together. Design boards of varied styles and swatches of color. The combinations and types of boards to make are limitless.

Still not a fan of Social Media? I hope I've changed your mind about Pinterest. It could have the solution you've been searching for to grow your audience.

7 steps to a successful exhibition

When designing a graphic or imagery for a Twist display banner stand, the below information may help you make the correct choices to make it very affective. After all the main purpose for attending an exhibition is to reach potential customers or clients for more sales for your business.

First step – Be careful when using fonts (typography) avoid using to many fonts on your design, stick to the main rule of thumb using the maximum 3 fonts.

Second step – Make your graphics / photography powerful and large, the display needs to grab their attention quickly, this will entice the customer to your stand.

Third step – Use vibrant colors that are close to your brand colors, using contrast to make the color palette harmonic.

Fourth step – Use large clear fonts for the main focus headline, sub headers again smaller, with body text at a good readable size when the customer comes closer to the stand. The headline should be readable from a distance of a few meters away from the stand.

Fifth step – Do not be afraid to be different! Use a graphic or imagination that will create a talking point, for instance a graphic that would not usually be associated with your market. Maybe an illustration or give it a quirky look and feel.

Sixth step – Dependent on your budget and whether your graphic designer works in-house, you could theme your whole stand. Concept work would be required here to get the right look and feel. Base it on a country or a specific color, add an element on your stand that will make the customers step on to the stand and talk to your team. This is the first step to talking to the customer and leaving them a card or information.

A good idea is to make your whole stand a specific theme and make all the information related to this theme. Could be based around space with a large star backdrop and leaflets the same graphic.

You could go even further and have your sale staff dress up as spacemen handing out business cards and flyer's as they walk past the stand.

Seventh step – Make your stand easy to walk around and collect information, this is your main selling feature. If the customer is on your stand this is your time to shine and get across your business and how it can help them.

I hope these tips help your business shine and have a very successful exhibition.
